What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a state of mind where the subconscious is more open to suggestion. This state of mind can be brought on by a therapist using mental and physical relaxation techniques, but it is also a state of mind you will naturally find yourself in many times a day, for example when you are daydreaming or driving.

 

The brain is made up of the conscious mind and subconscious mind. The conscious mind is logical and analytical, it stores our short-term memories and is where our will power comes from. It is only aware of the present moment and can only manage one task at a time.

The subconscious mind is where our long-term memories are stored, it’s responsible for anything we do automatically and is where our beliefs, habits and imagination come from. Our subconscious mind is like a sponge when we are young, soaking up information that we are told or exposed to. Much of our morals and beliefs are formed during this time, before our critical faculty kicks in, and these programmed beliefs can affect us in later life by ensuring we behave and respond in a way that we have previously been programmed to. The subconscious does not rationalise what we are told but instead is very literal.

The critical faculty is a filter between our subconscious and conscious mind and stops the messages received from the conscious mind being automatically passed to the subconscious, instead evaluating them. If the conscious mind’s messages conflict with the subconscious mind’s beliefs the critical faculty will not let these messages through to the subconscious as the subconscious mind’s beliefs are stronger than the conscious mind’s logic. Therefore, therapies that only communicate with the conscious mind will struggle to bring about changes in beliefs, morals, habits and emotions. However, by using hypnosis we can rest the conscious mind, bypass the critical faculty, and communicate with the subconscious to make real, positive changes.

What is Thought Field Therapy?

Thought Field Therapy (TFT) is a safe therapeutic technique which can help reduce or even eliminate negative feelings and emotions which accompany specific thoughts and memories. It involves tapping on certain energy points on the body, in a specific order, whilst focusing on the issue, whether that’s psychological, emotional or physical.

 

TFT uses the same system as acupuncture, but where acupuncture focuses on physical problems, TFT works on the thought field. The thought field is the emotion or sensation that accompanies a specific thought. The electrical spots we work with have been found to have less electrical resistance, so can better conduct electricity through the skin into the nervous system. When we do TFT we are changing the information in the energy field which is paired with a specific thought or memory. Therefore, we can change the feelings and sensations around a specific thought or memory.

 

The treatment is non-invasive and you can perform the tapping on your own body. It can be used for trauma, addictive urges, anxiety, phobias, OCD, depression, grief, rage, shame and guilt. It often works quickly and is long lasting.
